Dr. Stoerner chose the subspecialty of rheumatology because of the unique challenges the specialty provides.  In order to treat patients with success, a rheumatologist must understand a complex medical problem that presents in a variable manner.  The changes in treatment also lured him to the specialty with patients often having significant improvement with the advent of Biologics.

During fellowship Dr. Stoerner completed training for the Ultrasound School of North American Rheumatologists (USSONAR).  He continues to use musculoskeletal ultrasound in both diagnostic and interventional arenas.  Studies have shown this improves both the accuracy of diagnostic evaluations and the accuracy of joint injections.

Dr. Stoerner joined the Albuquerque Center of Rheumatology in 2010.  He is happy to be home in his native state of New Mexico.  Outside of work he enjoys skiing, golf, road biking with his wife, and spending time with his 2 sons.
